 The Ancient Egyptian Government was first ruled by the Pharaoh. The Pharaoh was the supreme leaser , not only of the Government but also of the religion. he had a hierarchy of rulers and leaders below him who ran different aspects of the government. Vizier: was the primary leader of the government under the Pharaoh. He was the Chief overseer of the land like the prime minister. All the other officials reported to him. No marks: Under the Vizier were local governors called the No marks. they ruled over an area of land called the Nome. Nome was like a state. Other officials were the Army commander, the chief treasurer and minister of public work. They all had their own responsibilities and power. Scribes were also important as they kept track of the finances and recorded taxes.  Citizens had to pay taxes to support the government. People accepted the Pharaoh as their supreme leader and God.

  Lifestyle: Ancient Egypt was a complex society needing people doing many different tasks and jobs. Some of the jobs are farming, craftspeople, soldiers, scribes and priests. Looking nice and being clean was very important to them. Rich people wore jewelry made of gold and silver while the poor wore made of copper. Makeup was worn too by both men and women. The main type of makeup was eye paint. Since it was hot, people wore linen clothes. Men wore kilts and women wore straight dress. the poor wore patterned fabric. The houses in the village were made of sun baked mud. The houses were small with few windows and furniture and had flat roofs for people to sleep during summer. The staple food was the bread. They also had fruits, vegetables, lambs and goats for food. They had clay ovens to cook and dishes were made of clay. In ancient times, the Egyptians called the  desert  the "red land", distinguishing it from the flood plain around the Nile River, called the "black land". These colors reflect the fact that the  desert  sands have a reddish hue and the land around the Nile turned black when the annual flood waters receded.
